PTE has four modules, as follows:-

Listening Summary 45 to 57 Minutes

  • Summarize Spoken Text: – After listening to a recording, write a summary of 50-70 words. Recording Length will be of 60-90 seconds.
  • Multiple choice, Choose Multiple Answers: – After listening to a recording, answer multiple choice questions on the content or tone of the recording by selecting more than one response. Recording length will be of 40-90 seconds.
  • Fill in the blanks: – The transcription of a recording appears on the screen with several blanks. While listening to the recording, type the missing words into the blanks. Recording length will be of 30-60 seconds.
  • Highlight correct Summary: – After listening to a recording, select the paragraph that best summarizes the recording. Recording length will be of 30-90 seconds.
  • Multiple choice, choose Single Answers: – After listening to a recording, answer a multiple choice question on the content or the tone of the recording by selecting one response. Recording length will be of 30-60 seconds.
  • Select Missing Word: – After listening to a recording, select the missing word or group of words that completes the recording. Recording time will be of 20-70 seconds.
  • Highlight incorrect Words: – The transcription of a recording appears on a screen. While listening to the recording, identify the words in the transcription that differ from what he said. Recording length will be of 15-50 seconds.
  • Write from Dictation: – After listening to the recording of a sentence, type a sentence. Recording length will be of 3-5 seconds only.

 Reading 32-41 Minutes

  • Multiple choice, choose single answers: – After reading a text, answer a multiple choice question on the content or tone of the text by selecting one response. Text length: Up to 300 words.
  • Multiple choice, choose Multiple Answers: – After reading a text, answer a multiple choice question on the content or the tone of the text by selecting more than one response. Text length: Up to 300 words.
  • Re-order Paragraphs: – several text boxes appear on the screen in random order. Put the text boxes in the correct order. Text length: Up to 150 words.
  • Fill in the Blanks: – A text appears on screen with the several blanks. Drag words or phrases from blue box to fill in the blanks. Text length: Up to 80 words.
  • Reading and Writing (Fill in the Blanks): – A text appears on screen with several blanks. Fill in the blanks by selecting words from several drops down list of response options. Text length: Up to 300 words.

Writing 40-60 Minutes

  • Summarize Written Text: – After reading a passage, write a one sentence summary of the passage.
    • Response length: 5-75 words.
    • Time to Answer: 10 Minutes.
  • Write Essay: – Write an essay of 200-300 words on a given topic
    • Response length: 200-300 words
    • Time to Answer: 20 Minutes
    • Speaking 30-35 Minutes

Speaking 40-60 Minutes

  • Speak Aloud: – A text appears on a screen. Read the text aloud.
    • Recording Length: 60 words.
    • Time to Answer: Varies by Item and also depends on the length of the text.
  • Repeat Sentence: – After listening to a sentence, repeat the sentence.
    • Time to Answer: 15 seconds
    • Recording Length: 3-9 seconds
  • Describe Image: – An image appears on the screen. We have to describe the image in detail.
    • Time to Answer: 40 seconds
  • Re-tell Lecture: – After listening or watching a lecture, re-tell the lecture in your own words.
    • Time to Answer: 40 seconds
  • Answer Short Questions: –
    • After listening to a question, answer with a single word or few words.
    • Time to Answer: 10 seconds
